I am preparing for my AAPC Certification test and feel this review is concise, easy to read and gets to the meat of what is important. There is a pre-test and a post-test that you do online. Do the pre-test first before you study and see what you have to focus on then study the book and then take the post-test. These are timed to match the 5 hour and 40 minute actual test. See what you learned then take the final in the book. She takes you through the entire CPT sections and has exercises that focus on what is important to remember. Each exercise includes the CPT codes, HCPCS and ICD-9-CM that you have to extract out of an Op report. You give it your best shot and she gives you the answers and the reationale in the back of the book. I didn't do so well on the pre-test so I am studying now and wow, I think my brain is going to fall out!Product details

Physician Coding Exam Review 2013 The Certification Step with ICD-9-CM, 1e. is a really good book and for the price it is hard to pass up.
This is the worst website I've ever dealt with. The customer support is equally as bad and unhelpful. Ms. Buck would do better finding another publisher, one that will have a website that actually works (for example, when you type in the address listed on the first page of the book it will actually take you there and not to another page where it's impossible to navigate).
Loved this book! I am a CPC, and am preparing a few students to sit for the exam. This was a very helpful tool. I used an earlier version a few years ago when I prepared for my exam in 2011. The 2013 version is just as helpful. I would highly recommend this product!
This coding exam review book seems to help prepare students to pass the CPC certification exam. While I'm a bit disappointed w/its online benefits---pretty much only 3 different exams w/150 questions---the pre & post online exams have a lot of the same questions. Thank goodness for AAPC's site & chapter groups to help w/the process. I just wish there were more ways to test your knowledge w/the book's online section.
I would call this book moderately helpful for CPC exam review. Over half the book is medical terms and anatomy which is helpful if you need it. There are multiple choice questions after each chapter of the terms, anatomy, and reimbursement sections with answers. One downside, the "CPT" Unit which makes up most of the rest of the book, has practice questions, but doesn't include the answers. After taking the actual exam, this is the most important part and answers would be extremely helpful. I appreciated the 3 practice tests that came with it, but the actual test was different and much much harder than any of the practice tests. I felt extremely confident after studying with this book and making almost perfect scores on the practice tests. However,I do not feel it fully prepared me for the real exam and I went into it with a false sense of confidence.
This book as been a great supplement to my textbook for coding. The textbook does not provide any feedback (answers) to assist you with understanding why you code certain things a particular way. However, this book gives more understanding, better vocabulary, and feedback through answers in the back of the book for better test prep.
It is horribly impossible to access the resources that the author claims come with this book through the book's online website. If you want to review for your exam without any aggravations and also want answers to any of your exercises, look elsewhere.
I also believe this book is obsolete. It is a rehash of the same content and questions as far back as 2004. This is 2014!!!
I suggest you consider the latest edition of the "Official CPC Certification Study Guide" by the AAPC who administer the CPC Examination. The end-of-chapter exams in this Study Guide are modeled after the actual certification exam and the answers and rationales to all their questions are included in the Study Guide.
